‘Print Services – Faster, efficient and cheaper than the High Street’
The University of Bristol is one of the most popular and successful in the UK; recently ranked within the top 50 universities in the world (QS World University Rankings 2018). It’s six faculties attract over 18,000 undergraduates and 5,000 postgraduates to their courses (2016/2017 figures: Careers Service).
The print needs of such highly successful Universities – communication, process management and information capture – arguably remain the same, but the educational environment is ever more fast-moving, mobile and connected. The University of Bristol is a great example of an institution who have encouraged the development of its print room facility not only to meet the immediate challenges but also to develop new and innovative services that help in the promotion and presentation of the University in competitive segments.
Amanda Gallacher, Print Services Manager, and her team play a key role in ensuring their University offers services to the staff and students that supports connected and independent learning. Having invested in the latest digital colour copiers, the Print Services’ on-line offering showcases an impressive range of services.
The team produce all types of work ranging from departmental handouts, flyers, student dissertations, event banners to glossy brochures. Their specialist staff are also called upon to advise on printing requirements and work closely with the University’s Communications and Marketing Division to ensure the University’s visual identity is protected. They even offer their own design service in-house.
In the fast moving University environment, users have high level of service expectations to which Skyline plays an important role, supporting the goals of increased service uptake whilst maintaining a quick turnaround on orders. The key to this was reducing the burden of unnecessary administration.
“Our Print Submission Service (Skyline) guides the users through the necessary steps including specifying print and finishing requirements and managing the associated financial arrangements. This has significantly reduced the number of general queries and management of order errors that my team are required to handle.” Amanda Gallacher
Since Print Services implemented their Print Submission Service, they have amassed over 2,600 users of the on-line service, many repeat visitors, resulting in thousands of orders streamlined through the system. However, the team are not resting on their laurels.
“We are now looking into adding personalised products to the offering and, with many of our regular users University staff, we are looking at developing the template for a student focused storefront that addresses the very specific needs of this group and enables us to better extend our reach to this wider audience.” says Amanda
Along with their own clear and comprehensive web pages and some great creative promotional material complete with the tag line – ‘faster, efficient and cheaper than the high street’ – this ambition to provide the best route and options for print has all led to the ongoing popularity of the University of Bristol Print Service. Here at ePrint we are delighted to continue to play a part in such burgeoning business and bright future.
